This Guide is organically linked to the “Organisation of the permanent exhibition of the new Archaeological Museum of Chania and storeroom equipment” project, which was integrated and completed in the framework of the “Crete 2014-2020” Operational Programme of the Region of Crete. However, it also provides an overview of the journey of the Museum of Chania through time and space. We therefore considered it necessary, in addition to our main objective – the presentation of the permanent exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Chania – to include an introductory section briefly presenting the history of the Museum from its foundation in 1899, the enrichment of its collections over time and its establishment in its permanent home, against the background of the historical fortunes of Chania. As a result, the Guide is structured in four parts: the introduction and three main exhibition sections, following the course of the exhibition narrative.
