The French documentary À voix haute-La Force de la parole follows a group of students from the suburbs of Paris who take part in a rhetoric competition, even though most of them have never spoken in public.
"Speech is the weapon that allows us to defend ourselves, but also the means to conquer the world," say the participating students. Their decision to expose themselves to the public reveals their need to share emotions, defend ideas and express their dreams. The camera follows the protagonists in the process of preparation and in their daily life in the neighbourhoods of the Parisian suburbs.
Beyond a simple rhetoric contest, À voix haute-La Force de la parole is a documentary about the power of speech and the will to push our limits.

"Concerto for piano and silent cinema "* With distinguished soloist and composer, George Saltaris
This is an alien journey to the 7th Art of the 1920s and 1930s, the era when music played not just an accompanying but a leading role in the development of a film, as, in the absence of spoken dialogue, there were professional musicians on stage at every screening - even entire symphony orchestras, performing the film's soundtrack live throughout the film.
Reviving that era, George Saltaris will perform his concerto on stage, with a piano accompaniment to Charlie Chaplin's masterful romantic comedy "City Lights", which will be shown simultaneously on the big screen with English and Greek subtitles. The soloist has chosen to accompany with his music one of the most touching and human films in the history of world cinema, on the theme of self-denial and selfless love for the weak fellow human being.
*"Concerto for piano and silent cinema" is a production of the Chania Film Festival/Chania Film Festival.
Cinema and music in a conversation on stage, in a magical journey through the era of silent cinema.
